DGS intervened on behalf of the Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Association and its members in a precedent-setting case brought by an environmental group against the Forest Service over the scope of NEPA documentation required under Forest Service regulations before authorizing oil and gas leasing on Forest Service lands. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with the position advocated by DGS on behalf of RMOGA and its members that the additional NEPA documentation sought by environmental plaintiffs was not required under the regulations.
