Case Study: Oil & Gas Field
Marathon Oil Company wished to drill oil and gas wells in Wyoming in an area populated by the Grizzly Bear, an endangered species. DGS assisted Marathon in negotiating mitigation measures, such as conducting activities in seasonal windows and accessing certain drill sites by helicopter, that were approved by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service. DGS also successfully represented Marathon in challenges brought to decisions approving its plans on Endangered Species Act and NEPA grounds. See, e.g., Park County Res. Council v. U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, 613 F. Supp. 1182 (D. Wyo. 1985), aff’d, 817 F.2d 609 (10th Cir. 1987).
