M. Scott Regan

Of Counsel

M. Scott Regan’s practice involves representing public and private companies on transactional and corporate matters, primarily in the energy industry. Throughout his legal career, he has participated in public company mergers and offerings, the acquisition and divestiture of upstream and midstream oil and gas assets and numerous other corporate matters. As a former general counsel of publicly traded companies, Scott has extensive experience in corporate governance, litigation, enterprise risk and crisis management and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining DGS, Scott was the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Chord Energy, a position to which he was appointed in connection with the $6 billion merger of equals of Whiting Petroleum Corporation and Oasis Petroleum Inc. He was previously the Vice President, Legal, General Counsel and Secretary of Whiting. Prior to joining Whiting, Scott held positions of increasing responsibility in the legal department of Encana (now Ovintiv) between 2004 to 2015 where, most recently, he was the Vice President, Legal, Western and Southern Operations. He began his legal career in 1996 with the law firm of Crowley, Haughey, Hanson, Toole & Dietrich (now Crowley Fleck) in Helena, Montana and joined Holland & Hart in 1998 in the Denver office.

He received his B.A., History, with Honors, from Montana State University and his J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law, where he was as an editor of the Montana Law Review.
