DGS Expands Natural Resources and Finance & Acquisitions Departments with the Addition of Three New Lawyers

DENVER – SEPTEMBER 5, 2013 – Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP has added three new lawyers across two of its core departments. Associates Ben Abell and Edward Shaoul have joined the Finance & Acquisitions Department and Matt Hartford has joined the firm’s Natural Resources Department.

Prior to joining DGS, Mr. Abell served as a law clerk for the Honorable Nathan B. Coats on the Colorado Supreme Court. After his clerkship, Mr. Abell acted as the executive director of Startup Colorado, an organization which focuses on strengthening and expanding the startup ecosystem in Colorado’s Front Range. During this time, he also worked with the Entrepreneurship Initiative at the Silicon Flatirons Center as a Research Fellow. Mr. Abell is a graduate of the University of Colorado and received his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School. He is admitted to practice in Colorado.

Mr. Shaoul has more than 10 years of investment banking and finance experience, primarily advising clients in mergers and acquisitions, and capital raising and principal investment transactions. Prior to law school, he was the executive vice president of strategy and business development at The Chotin Group, an investment management firm, and a director at Headwaters MB, a middle-market merchant bank, in Denver. In addition, he was a vice president at Allen & Company and an associate at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York. He is a graduate of Tufts University, received his M.B.A from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business, and received his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He is not presently licensed in Colorado but his application for admission is pending.

Mr. Hartford’s practice focuses on transactional matters for the oil and gas industry, regulatory matters before oil and gas commissions, and preparing title opinions covering fee, state, and federal lands. Prior to joining DGS, Mr. Hartford practiced with a Denver-based energy firm, where his experience included a wide range of energy litigation matters in State and Federal Courts. He also provided support in operational, development, access, and transactional matters. Mr. Hartford received his B.A. from the University of Wyoming and his J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law. He is admitted to practice in Nebraska, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
