Paul J. Prendergast, Ph.D. Joins DGS Partnership

May 7, 2019

Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP is pleased to announce that Paul J. Prendergast, Ph.D. has joined the firm’s partnership and Finance & Acquisitions Department. His work will continue to have an emphasis on intellectual property but without a patent prosecution component.

“We are delighted to welcome Paul Prendergast to the firm,” said DGS Co-Managing Partner Kristin Lentz. “His academic background and breadth of experience will help us round out the IP services that we offer our clients.”

Dr. Prendergast is admitted to practice in Colorado and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has an extensive record of assisting clients in developing strategies to preserve, manage, and leverage their intellectual property assets. For years, he has worked with biotech, chemical, big-pharma, and materials technology companies to protect their inventions, brands, and other intellectual property assets. His experience spans several dimensions of intellectual property law, including trademark and copyright; U.S. and foreign patent prosecution; freedom to operate; infringement and validity; licensing agreements; intellectual property risk; and IP due diligence.

As Trent Martinet, chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Group observed, “Paul broadens and strengthens our intellectual property capabilities in the biotech, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. We are pleased to have him at DGS.”

Prior to joining DGS, Dr. Prendergast practiced law at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP, where he was a shareholder. He was previously a partner at Merchant & Gould P.C. in Denver.

Dr. Prendergast holds a J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he was admitted into the Order of St. Ives. He holds two additional degrees from the University of Colorado: a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology and a B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. Dr. Prendergast has been widely published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is active in a number of community projects and currently serves on the board of Project Greer Street, an award-winning high school academic enrichment program for African-American males.
